The United Nations Volunteers Programme (UNV), in partnership with the Universidad Autonoma de Madrid (UAM), and the University Volunteer Network, recently welcomed 5 volunteers from Spain who will be stationed in Zone One Tondo Organization (ZOTO) in Navotas, Earth Rights Peoples Rights in Alabang, and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Makati City.
The Universidad Autonoma de Madrid (UAM) is coordinating the Spanish University Volunteer Network that comprises 26 universities in Spain. Since its inception in 2002, the Spanish University Volunteer Network has fielded 116 University Volunteers around the world to build local capacities in areas such as Information and Technology (IT), health, environment, and education in pursuit of achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

Zone One Tondo Organization (ZOTO) will be the home organization for 2 Spanish volunteers. The volunteers will develop quality IT education for out-of-school youth, provide multi-facetted support to flood victims, and coach Zone One, a youth band comprised of out-of-school youth, for the next 6 months.
“I am so happy to be here and to help the youth in Navotas. I’m hoping that I will be able to establish strong rapports with them,” says Cere, who is assigned to ZOTO as IT Volunteer Trainer.
