Roy Pamitalan National UNV (NUNV) Volunteers work in their own country and often serve in 'mixed teams' with international UNV volunteers. They are most often recruited to work on community-based development projects with participatory approaches.

The majority of NUNV Volunteers holds a bachelor's or post-graduate degree in addition to many years of professional experiences in the related field.

Currently there are two Filipinos serving as NUNV Specialist, both of whom engaging in field-based projects in Mindanao. Roy Pamitalan (above photo) has been serving as a NUNV Information & Technology Specialist since 2005, assigned to Cisco Systems Inc., providing IT training to public high schools located in the Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) and Conflict-affected Areas of Mindanao ( CAAM ).

"Voluntary work is a demonstration of human solidarity in action that benefits those who give as much as those who receive," says Roy who travels extensively in the region to deliver much needed services.

Prior to joining UNV, Roy was working for Cisco Networking Academy Program as an academic instructor and received "Most Outstanding Cisco Academy Instructor" in 2003. Roy holds a master's degree in mathematics.
