UN Volunteers Philippines | Inspiration in Action: Bayanihan

While the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme is inspired by the conviction that volunteerism is a way of engaging people in social development, UNV Philippines is at the forefront of promoting volunteerism in the country.

To further promote volunteerism in the Philippines, UNV Philippines welcomes local and international volunteers in Philippines to share their stories and experiences. We would like the volunteers serving in Philippines to tell us about their projects and how they overcame the challenges faced during their assignments. It is an opportunity for the volunteers to talk about their experiences in their own words and celebrate those moments.

We will publish the selected stories from volunteers on this 'Inspiration in Action: Bayanihan' page which is yet another effort by UNV Philippines to inspire and attract youths towards volunteerism. As a souvenir and in recognition of their services for social development, the selected volunteers will receive UNV T-shirt or UNV Cap.

Going beyond the distance, Armin Prussner (Online Volunteer)

You don't have to be near to make a difference. Armin Prussner proves everyday that being far cannot hinder you from working for a cause.

With a master's degree in Applied Mathematics & Scientific Computing, Armin is part of the growing number of lives who decided to connect to the world via the Online Volunteering; a programme supported by the United Nations Volunteers programme and the government of Ireland, which allows people to share their skills online with development organisations around the world.

Alex's gift to Humanity, Alexandra Madrigal Eduque

When teen Alexandra Madrigal Eduque first stepped on the floor of gravel and cement on a building site four years ago; they thought she wouldn't last. But she did; and at 18, helped hundreds of fellow Filipinos build new homes and ultimately, new lives.

In the middle of a depressed area shines hope in the hands of youth volunteers. With the Piglas Kabataan (PK), the youth are empowered and encouraged to speak out, know their rights and fight for their rights.

Making a difference, being the change, Emmanuel Bagual (Dynamic Teen Company)

Born on December 16, 1992, Emmanuel grew up in a slum area in Cavite near a dumpsite where he became a scavenger. During his youth he worked to help his parents raise money for day to day survival. Young Emmanuel attended classes during the week, then spent his weekends selling corn from a kariton (pushcart) on the roads of Cavite.
